Collaborative Law

Separating couples may decide that they wish to work collaboratively to resolve their issues.  This means that they commit to working as a team, with the assistance of their respective collaborative lawyers, to find the best solution for them and the family.

The approach is largely meeting-based with minimal paperwork in and around the 4-way meetings.  This helps with maintaining control over costs.  Advice is given within the meetings and if given outside of the meetings then it is shared with the group.  The aim of this is to make sure that everything that is discussed remains transparent which in turn helps to minimise conflicting advice which can lead to unhelpful positions being adopted.

As part of the team approach, associated professionals can be introduced into the meetings either in person or in providing written advice.  For example, a financial neutral, family consultant or a specialist barrister, to name but a few, can be invited to provide useful and often necessary input to help the team achieve an outcome.

Collaborative is designed to help those separating keep control by having more effective input to shape the outcome they are both working towards.  By working with solution-focused professionals, they can achieve the much sought-after ‘Good Divorce’.
